(CNN) — Stipe Miocic conquered Daniel Cormier in the UFC 241 major event Saturday night to again become the heavyweight champion.
For several rounds it seemed like Miocic might lose his second successive fight against Cormier, the defending heavyweight champ. Cormier beat him knocking him out.
However, this moment Miocic staged a comeback in the fourth round, bringing many body shots and also bends blows to Cormier’s mind which ended in a match to reclaim the title.
«He is an amazing fighter,» Miocic said of his opponent at a post-fight news conference. «He gets people feel uncomfortable in there. He did that for the first two rounds but then I began to get my bearings. I saw down him and I thought,’Okaythis is where I take action now.'»
Before dropping to Cormier last calendar year, Miocic, 35, was the very first UFC heavyweight champion to defend the title three times.
Cormier, 40, the first and sole UFC fighter to defend titles in two weight classes, has suggested that Saturday’s struggle may be his last.
«Everyone asks about [retirement], but that is what happens if you turn 40,» Cormier told CNN on Thursday. «I really feel great. I wan na na get through this weekend, then I’ll sit with my loved ones, and we’re going to figure out what’s happening. It is a real thing. Father time builds up to everyone.»
